Understanding Your Diagnosis

A CKD diagnosis means your kidneys are not filtering blood as well as they should. This is measured by your GFR (glomerular filtration rate). A GFR below 60 for three months or more indicates CKD.

Common Causes

The two most common causes are diabetes and high blood pressure, which together account for up to two-thirds of all cases. Other causes include glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, and certain medications.

Living Well with CKD

With proper management, many people with CKD live full, active lives. Key strategies include following your treatment plan, taking medications as prescribed, eating a kidney-friendly diet, staying physically active, and keeping all your medical appointments.
